Sven Longshanks looks at allegations of racism against a Tory MP, a pantomime production and William Shakespeare.
Tory MP Bob Stewart told a Bahraini protester who had been in Britain for 9 years, to go back to Bahrain. This has nothing to do with race, but that did not stop the protester making a complaint.
Pantomimes are a uniquely British phenomena, featuring men who dress as women and women who pretend to be young men. A new production of Aladdin is being accused of racism for having an all White British cast and for referring to Chinatown as ‘oriental town’.
A Globe production of a William Shakespeare play has new improved racisms, to highlight the alleged racism that the play’s director is sure the bard must have had, despite him living at a time when Britain was 99.9% White.
