Sven Longshanks, TruthVids and PatriArt look at the position of women in Welsh society at the time of Howell the Good.
Howell’s laws stipulated payments for when a woman was married and if the husband was found cheating on his wife.
There was compensation for any physical damage incurred and laws regarding who could give surety for a debt.
Thieves could be hanged, but were allowed to steal food if they had passed through three towns without being given any food.
These laws show a high standard of civilisation, having evolved over many centuries since they were first recorded in the time of Molmutius.
