Dr. Johnson again describes important elements of the metaphysics and historiography of Alexei Losev (1893-1988), one of the great philosophers of the Soviet era, albeit one almost unknown outside of Russia. While certainly eccentric in his acceptance of the Name Worshiping idea, his writings were an apologia for the spirit against official Soviet materialism. While he paid dearly for his Orthodox understanding of philosophy, it did not destroy him, though he never lived to see the end of the USSR.
